These values are embedded in the ethos and culture of everything we do to ensure that young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. We promote British Values through a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring real opportunities for exploring these values.
Our school also believes the teaching of SMSC, Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) to be of the upmost importance in preparing all our children to participate fully in their community.
Democracy
Pupil voice is important at Birchwood School. Pupil voice is valued and respected and tolerance of the views of other is actively promoted.
The Rule of Law
The importance of laws and rules are consistently reinforced at Birchwood School. The curriculum supports the teaching of the rule of law through circle time, and the PHSE and Citizenship curriculum. Religious Education looks at how different religions have different guiding principles.
Individual Liberty
Pupils will be actively encouraged to make choices at our school, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. All pupils are encouraged to know, understand, and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise their safety. We value self-worth and mutual respect.
Mutual Respect
At Birchwood School everyone is values and has a contribution to make. Pupils are encouraged to show respect for themselves and for others and to understand that along with rights come responsibilities. Bullying in any form will not be accepted.
Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
Birchwood School pro-actively support pupils and staff from differing backgrounds, and difference and diversity are celebrated. The curriculum allows pupils the opportunities to experience diversity in school, in the local community and beyond.

Rule of Law
The students were able to follow the rules of the quiz, and work as part of a team.
Democracy
The students worked as a team and let each player give their opinions and answers.
Respect
Our family visitors were served home made scones and drinks. After the part, our students helped to tidy up.
